7 Best Bidet Toilet Seats For Every Bathroom

What is a bidet Seat?

Bidet toilet seats are seats connected to the bathroom water supply to clean the toilet user after every toilet use using a nozzle fitted on the toilet’s rear. Bidet toilet seats are either electric or non-electric.

Electric bidet toilet seats are connected to a power outlet and provide warm water cleansing as well as warm air drying. Non-electric bidet toilet seats are less fancy as they clean you with cold water and have no dryer.

Apart from just cleaning you, a good bidet toilet seat will offer other functions such as:

  • Nightlight
  • Heated toilet seat.
  • Deodorizing
  • Wireless remote operations
  • Auto lid opening and closing
  • Automatic flushing.

Bidet toilet seats are an improvement of the original stand-alone bidets. A stand-alone bidet is an oval-shaped porcelain bathroom fixture installed next to the toilet to offer the same functions as a bidet toilet seat.

Stand-alone bidets are, however, limited in their functions compared to bidet seats and are less comfy. To use a stand-alone bidet, you must first wipe with toilet paper, flush, stand up and walk to the bidet, fill it with water, straddle it like a hose, and start cleaning yourself.

stand-alone-bidet

Unlike in a bidet seat where you are dried with warm air, you will need a towel or toilet paper to dry yourself after using a stand-alone bidet.

Stand-alone bidets were invented in France in the 1700s and spread throughout Europe and Asia. Interestingly, stand-alone bidets never penetrated the North American market despite concerted popularization by different companies.

Americans and Bidets

I am not exactly sure why stand-alone bidets never excited the American population. Still, I would think most Americans were just happy to use old good toilet paper, and many others didn’t want to add an extra fixture in their bathrooms or didn’t see the need for one.

It was also rumored that bidets were associated with prostitution and family planning methods, two discussions that were taboo in then-conservative America. Soldiers returning home from Europe after World War II also reported bidets as such, which didn’t help the situation.

Most American travelers are surprised by the popularity of stand-alone bidets in Europe and Asia. It is not a wonder that most Americans don’t know how to use a bidet. A friend once confided in me that he used one as a sink in Italy. “Italian bathroom sinks are really low.” He must have thought to himself.

In contrast, Europeans and Asians traveling to America are surprised by how a first-world country like the United States would lack something as essential as a bidet. They say once you use a bidet, you don’t see toilet paper the same way anymore.

Even more surprising, the first bidet toilet seat was invented in the United States by Arnold Cohen, “Mr. Bidet,” to help his father clean himself due to an existing medical condition. He founded the American Bidet Company in the 1960s, but Americans still didn’t like this product. The media did not also like to advertise it. It sounded gross at the time.

Bidet Toilet Seats Invention

Cohen did not give up on his dream because he partnered with TOTO, the Japanese toilet manufacturing giant. Toto had already noted that people with hemorrhoids in Japan would take warm water with them to the bathroom to help with the pain, which was better than toilet paper.

They licensed Cohen’s invention and started making electric bidet toilet seats, which were an instant hit in Japan. It is very hard to see a Japanese bathroom that does not have a bidet today.

Although not as fast as it happened in Japan, bidet toilet seats are penetrating the North American market, and those who have used them absolutely love them. The best thing about bidet toilet seats is that you don’t need to tear down your bathroom floor to install a secondary fixture like the stand-alone bidet.

With the comfort, hygiene, and convenience that bidet toilet seats provide, I am certain that these are the toilet seats of the future. And the future is here already.

Today, there are so many companies that make bidet toilet seats, and you can, therefore, be overwhelmed while looking for the best one to buy. The purpose of this article is to help you choose the best bidet toilet seat for your bathroom with ease.

The Toto S550E electronic bidet toilet seat is the best among other Toto bidet seats and probably the overall best bidet seat in the industry. It is, however, not available for round toilet bowls but is available for elongated toilet bowls in a classic and contemporary design in cotton white or Sedona beige.

The classic elongated bidet seat features a beveled edge, while the contemporary elongated bidet seat has a modern, smooth surface. The beveled edge of the classic seat is only on the lid and is purely for aesthetic purposes.

This is the one bidet toilet seat that I know will give you a completely hands-free experience. To start with, the toilet seat opens and closes automatically. As soon as you approach the toilet, the seat will sense your presence, prompting the lid to auto-open. It can also be set in such a way that both the seat and the lid open automatically.

Unlike in previous older models where Toto used dual nozzles, the Toto S550E bidet seat has 3 & 1 single nozzles that offer more effective cleansing. Toto is, however, yet to join other bidet seat manufacturers in using stainless steel nozzles, as you will notice that this bidet has a plastic nozzle. It is, however, very good quality.

The nozzle provides a rear wide and narrow wash option as well as a front wide and narrow wash option. Its third wash option is the massage wash. The massage wash oscillates back and forth to cover a wide area and also pulsates, which, in essence, changes between strong and soft water streams to create a massaging sensation.

The temperature and pressure of the water can be adjusted to suit each user’s specific preferences. While utilizing the front or the rear wash, you can select to have the water stream narrow or wide. The wide wash covers a wider area, while the narrow wash covers a small area, but the water stream is stronger for a thorough wash.

You can run the massage/pulsating wash concurrently with either the rear or front washes. The position of the nozzle can also be adjusted forwards or backward to make sure that the water streams are hitting the right spots. According to Toto, they have designed the water stream angle in such a way that it prevents splashing back on the nozzle wand.

A warm air dryer whose temperature you can also adjust will help you dry once you are fully cleaned. Any likelihood of a bad smell in the bathroom will be thwarted by the deodorizer, which automatically freshens the room after each toilet use.

If you are one of those people who enjoy the warm water constantly hitting your rear way after you are fully cleaned, this bidet seat offers instant water heating and, as a result, an endless supply of hot water. The absence of the water tank gives it a streamlined, minimalist design, too.

To maintain top hygiene standards, the S550E uses Toto’s Ewater+ to self-clean the nozzle before and after use. This involves the use of electrolyzed water to sanitize the nozzle, thereby keeping germs at bay. The same water is also used to sanitize the bowl.

Another interesting feature found in the S550E and also found in other high-end Toto toilets is the Premist function. Just before you use the toilet, the seat sprays the bowl with little water, leaving it wet. This helps improve waste elimination by preventing the waste from sticking to the bowl. A great product if you have sticky poop. You, therefore, don’t need to use a toilet brush after every toilet use.

The Toto S550E bidet seat’s remote is the sleekest I have seen. It has a screen on the front and, more interesting, contains selection features at the front as well as at the back. A wall mount is provided to fix it on the wall. The remote also comes with a one-sheet manual that you can mount together with a wall mount to help you know what feature to use the first few days. It can also be very useful for your guests.

This bidet toilet has almost every feature that you would want from a bidet seat. It is, however, quite pricey, which is not very surprising given what it offers. A 1-year warranty is given after the date of purchase.

2. Bio Bidet Bliss BB2000 Bidet Toilet Seat

On Sale
Bio Bidet Bliss BB2000 Elongated White Smart...
  • WATER DOES IT BETTER – Choose from a variety of settings including rear wash, front wash and vortex wash for the perfect cleansing, freshwater spray to fit your needs
  • ULTIMATE BATHROOM UPGRADE - Sit down to a comfortable heated seat with built-in night light, whisper close lid and adjustable temperature controls
  • DESIGNED FOR EVERY BODY - Reduce the need for toilet paper with the built-in warm air dryer and keep your bathroom fresh with the automatic deodorizer

The Bio Bidet Bliss BB2000 3 in 1 nozzle is, without a doubt, one of the best bidet toilet seats in the market. It is available for both round and elongated toilet bowls.

One of the most interesting features of this bidet seat is the Bio Bidet’s patented 3 in 1 nozzle. It is, however, not the number of nozzles that matters but how well they work. It features a feminine posterior and a vortex wash through a single nozzle head.

For a more thorough and comfortable wash, the nozzle uses warm water infused with air bubbles in a process known as aeration. The temperature and pressure/flow rate of the water can be adjusted to your preferred settings.

Because different people are of different sizes, the nozzle position can be adjusted either backward or forward. This makes sure that the water is hitting all the desired places.

To clean over a wide area, this bidet seat has an oscillating function that makes the nozzles move back and forth in quick succession. When you select the pulsating wash, the nozzles will eject water at different pulses, alternating between strong and weak pulses. This function massages and also helps you to relax.

You will notice that the feminine wash is a little wider than the posterior wash. It cleans over a wide area and is a popular wash with ladies, which is also a bit gentler than the posterior wash.

The 3rd wash is the vortex wash, which is patented by Bio Bidet. Unlike the other two washes, the vortex wash provides a swirling stream of warm water for an even stronger cleansing option. You can also adjust its water temperature and pressure as needed.

Most bidet toilet seat manufacturers struggle between offering an instant heating seat or one that is heating water throughout the day. The team at Bio Bidet didn’t want to follow suit and, therefore, came with a bide seat using the hybrid heating system.

The problem with the instant heating system is that you are always not sure whether the first stream of water will be heated. Most people have received an initial cold water shock before the hot water starts to flow, which does not leave you with a nice experience.

The Bio Bidet Bliss BB2000 bidet toilet seat has an inbuilt tank that holds hot water, and you are therefore guaranteed a hot cleansing from end to finish. Even though the tank capacity is limited, this system keeps heating the incoming water. Hence, you will always have hot water.

As soon as you are completely clean, select the air-dyer option from the remote control. Warm air, whose temperature can also be adjusted, will blow all over your rear and front end, leaving you completely dry.

This bidet seat also provides you with other features, such as a heated toilet seat, nightlight, and a slow-close toilet seat. The blue nightlight illuminates the bowl as well as the backup controls on the seat to perfectly guide you to the toilet at night.

Its wireless remote control, which can be hand-held or wall-mounted, comes in either black or white. This helps you to choose the color that best suits your bathroom décor. In case the remote control is lost or the batteries are flat, there are backup controls on the seat so you can continue enjoying the seat as usual.

The Bio Bidet Bliss BB200 toilet seat is evidently a luxurious product which I recommend. It is also very visually appealing.

The Brondell Swash 1400 luxury bidet toilet seat is another great option for people looking to buy a high-end bidet seat. It is available for both round and elongated toilet bowls.

Most of the time, people can’t make up their minds easily on whether to buy the Brondell Swash 1400 or the Bio Bidet Bliss BB1200 bidet seat, and this is understandable. Picking either of these 2 is not an easy task.

The one thing that you will instantly notice about the Brondell Swash 1400 is that it is smooth and flat at the top, unlike the Bio Bidet toilet seat, which has a tank hump at the back. The Brondell Swash seat also feels really solid, and you can use it as a seat (with the lid down) even when you are not using the toilet.

Another thing to note is that the Brondell Swash 1400 uses two nozzles, one for the front wash and the other for the rear wash. The front wash nozzle is longer than the rear wash nozzle. As we have already seen, the Bio Bidet BB1200 uses a 3 in 1 single nozzle.

Although the Brondell Swash 1400 bidet seat is amazing, I feel like the Bio Bidet 1400 bidet seat single nozzle is more compatible with human’s rear anatomy than the Brondell Swash 1400. This is where I feel the Bio Bidet’s toilet seat edges out the Brondell Swash 1400. But that is just me.

Both the Brondell Swash 1400’s rear and front wash offer air-infused warm cleansing water whose temperature and pressure can be adjusted. I like the fact that you can select to widen the nozzle spray to target a wide area, or you can make it narrow to focus more on a certain section of the body.

The nozzle positions can be adjusted back and forth in 7 different positions, which is more than any other bidet seat in the market. The rapid back-and-forth oscillating wash coupled with a pulsating wash further enhances your experience.

The Swash 1400’s nozzles are made of stainless steel to deter the adherence of bacteria. These nozzles will also self-cleanse in the compartment behind the seat before and after cleansing.

One thing that may concern new bidet toilet seat owners is water dripping from the seat and into the bowl after they have already used the toilet. There is, however, not reason to get concerned as the dripping water is a result of the nozzles being cleaned and not a leakage.

You can also sterilize the nozzles any time you feel like through an on-demand wash that uses silver nanoparticles to clean the nozzles fully.

Unlike previous models of the Brondell Swash, the 1400 model has a replaceable deodorizer. You can, therefore, refresh the carbon filter every 6 months or as desired to have the deodorizer operating at peak performance.

This bidet toilet seat also comes with a wireless remote and a wall mount. Its wall-mount can be mounted on the wall using screwdrivers or adhesives at its back.

The remote control attaches to the wall mount with the help of an inbuilt magnet. Unlike other modern remote controls, this one does not have a screen, but an LED light will come up with every button you select.

You will love the fact that this seat has a sleek pocket that helps to conceal power and water lines, which leaves the entire toilet looking elegant. Other great features of the Brondell Swash 1400 are a slow-close toilet seat and lid, a nightlight, and a heated toilet seat.

It comes with a 3-year warranty.

4. Alpha JX Bidet Toilet Seat

On Sale
ALPHA BIDET JX Elongated Bidet Toilet Seat, White,...
  • WARM AND SOOTHING - Tankless on-demand water heating for endless warm water
  • DISCREET - Slim, low profile design with whisper quiet operation
  • HYGIENIC AND SANITARY - Self-cleaning, aluminum wash nozzle

Often, when people are looking to buy a mid-range bidet toilet seat, they tend to consider either the Alpha JX or the Toto C200 bidet toilet seats. So which one is the best?

The Alpha JX bidet toilet seat, to start with, is only available in white for both round and elongated toilet bowls. I, however, don’t think that a white toilet seat is a big issue since most toilets are white anyway.

This brand is not as popular as other bidet seat manufacturers like Toto, which customers associate more with. Although it is a fantastic toilet seat, most people might overlook it since, as we all know, customers tend to buy from brands they know.

The Alpha JX uses a single aluminum nozzle to offer front and rear washing options with pulsating and oscillating functions. The self-cleaning nozzle can be adjusted forward and backward as desired by the user to wash over a wide area.

Although the water pressure and temperature, as well as the dryer temperature, can be adjusted, the Alpha JX wireless remote offers an easier wash option if you don’t want to keep messing with settings. This is actually the simplest bidet remote control I have seen.

If you just select “EASY WASH” on the remote, it will activate the full-pressure rear wash with nozzle oscillation. You could also select the “WASH & DRY” button, whereby you will receive a complete rear wash with an oscillating nozzle followed by a drying cycle. I really like this feature, especially when you don’t want to spend a lot of time in the bathroom.

Due to its tankless design, the Alpha JX is more compact and with a streamlined sittable lid with a weight capacity of 300 pounds. It also guarantees you an endless supply of warm water with little to no lag time. If you, therefore, enjoy an unrushed cleansing process, this is the seat for you.

Just like any other decent bidet seat, the Alpha JX features a power warm air dryer. You will, however, be surprised that it does not have an air deodorizer. This is the one place where I feel like the design let them down since almost every other bidet seat has an air deodorizer these days.

I like the fact that the JX’s nightlight feature is light-sensitive. During the day, when the bathroom has ambient natural light, the nightlight will be off. When darkness sets in, a blue LED light illuminates the bowl to guide you to the toilet precisely.

Given its price, I would say that the Alpha JX bidet toilet seat is an excellent product which I do recommend. It comes with a 3-year warranty.

If you specifically want a Toto bidet toilet seat, but the S550E bidet seat is a bit over your price range, the Toto C200 bidet toilet seat is an excellent choice. It is available for both elongated and round front toilet bowls in cotton white and Sedona beige.

The Toto C200 washlet, just like the S550E, uses a plastic nozzle. Note that this is not to say that the Toto nozzle looks flimsy or cheap. They look awesome, and I’m merely saying this since other major bidet manufacturers have switched to stainless steel or aluminum.

The nozzle is self-cleaning, and you will notice water dripping into the bowl before and after use. Again, if you see this, remember that the nozzle is getting cleaned and is not a case of a leaking toilet seat.

It offers a rear and front wash, both of which can be combined with an oscillating and pulsating wash. The nozzle position can be adjusted forward or back to make sure that it is hitting all the right places as desired.

Different from the S550E, the C200 does not offer the wide front wash and the wide rear wash. You might, therefore, need to adjust your body position to make sure that there is not a spot that is being missed by the water stream.

Another thing to note is that the C200 is not as compact as the S550E since it has an in-built water tank at the back. While you are guaranteed that the first stream of water will be hot (no cold water shock), you will be in a rush against time. The warm water lasts for an average of 30 seconds, so you don’t have an endless supply like in the S550E.

The C200’s warm air dryer has 5 different temperature settings to help you choose the one you are most comfortable with. Its automatic air deodorizer uses powerful filters to neutralize the room’s odors.

All commands are given from the wireless remote control, which I really like how it looks and also easy usability. Unfortunately, the seat does not have manual backup settings in case the remote is lost, or its batteries need replacement.

A heated toilet seat will always be waiting for you, especially during cold winters, to make sure you are not freezing from a cold seat. You can, however, turn off this feature during summer or any hot day. I am disappointed that this seat does not have a nightlight, which I consider a basic feature as long as bidets go.

As the C-200 auto-cleans the nozzles before being used, it also mists the bowl, which leaves it wet. This feature makes it easier to flush and clean the bowl, as a wet bowl is more effective in waste elimination than a dry one.

I don’t know why Toto does not automatically include it, but I would recommend that as you buy the Toto C200 bidet seat, you also buy the THU9090R TOTO 6-inch Hose Extension. It has a metal coupling on one side and a plastic coupling on the other side to help you connect the seat to the Tee-connector.

It comes with a 1-year warranty.

6. SmartBidet SB-1000 Electric Bidet Seat

SmartBidet SB-1000 Electric Bidet Seat for...
  • PERSONALIZED CLEANSING: Front, back, and targeted wash options with self-cleaning nozzle & oscillation.
  • EFFORTLESS CONTROL: Easily manage functions via the included remote control for a convenient experience.
  • CUSTOMIZABLE SETTINGS: Adjust water pressure, temperature, and nozzle positions to your preference.

If you need an inexpensive but functional bidet toilet seat, the SmartBidet SB-1000 is one to consider. It costs less than half of the high-end bidet seats with most of the modern and important bidet functions.

I should point out that this Bidet is made in South Korea. The seat, which comes in a white finish, is available for both round and elongated toilet bowls.

Its multi-function, self-cleaning single nozzle provides oscillating washes for her back, her front, and his back. It also features a turbo wash, which, in essence, refers to a narrowly concentrated wash for thoroughly cleaning a certain spot. The back-and-forth oscillating movement of the nozzle helps you clean over a wide area.

I should also mention that the nozzle position can be adjusted forward or backward through 5 positions to focus on different spots for people of different sizes. The temperature of the water can also be adjusted across 3 levels, while the water pressure can be adjusted through 5 levels.

The 3 in 1 SmartBidet SB-1000’s nozzle is made of high-quality ABS plastic and self-cleans before and after use. As soon as the nozzle retracts back after cleansing, the warm air dryer with 5 temperature settings starts blowing warm air on your rear to remove the moisture, leaving you dry completely.

This bidet seat has an inbuilt water tank at the back, which provides you with warm, cleansing water all the time. As is the case with bidet seats with a hot water reservoir, if you take too long on the seat, you will feel the water start getting cooler.

The SmartBidet bidet seat is heated, so you can comfortably enjoy your bathroom trips during cold winters. It also comes with a soft, close toilet seat, which prevents the irritating sound of a seat slamming on the bowl.

One feature that you will notice lacking in this seat is the nightlight. I like the convenience of using the bathroom at night without necessarily having to turn on the bright lights, so this disappoints me. An air deodorizer is also lacking from this seat.

Other than that, I like the fact that this seat is very well made, and it looks and feels solid. It is also very easy to install on your own and is very sturdy. Its weight capacity is 330 pounds.

If you are looking for a bidet seat that will offer most bidet functions without breaking the bank, the SmartBidet SB-1000 is more than perfect. It comes with a 1-year warranty.

  • Easy to Clean Kohler Toilet Seat: Quick release hinges allow for easy removal and convenient toilet cleaning; to clean, simply use a soft, dampened sponge or cloth; never use an abrasive material such...

Last but not least is the Kohler Puretide manual bidet toilet seat. This is a very basic bidet seat, and you would not expect to find most of the features in the high-end seats. For its price, this seat is such a bargain.

It only comes in white for elongated toilet bowls only. Although it is made by Kohler, it can fit on other elongated toilets from different manufacturers.

Since this is a non-electric bidet seat, it does not require a power outlet in the bathroom. The nozzle is controlled manually using a handle on the right-hand side of the seat. This handle can be rotated 360 degrees to change the orientation and position of the nozzle as desired by the user.

The seat has an ergonomic design, which makes it really comfortable to sit on. For your peace of mind, the seat lid closes slowly and quietly, eliminating the slamming sound of most seats, which also helps in the seat’s durability.

Removing and reattaching the seat during cleaning takes seconds. It features a quick-release mechanism, which means you only need to slide it out to remove it and slide it back after cleaning.

The main challenge with this seat is that the cleansing water is cold, and it also does not have a drier. You will, therefore, need to use toilet paper to dry yourself. If this is not a problem for you, then this is the bidet seat for you.

The Kohler Puretide bidet toilet seat is not very sophisticated, but it does the job for a fraction of what other high-end bidet seats cost. It comes with a 3-year limited warranty.

Best Bidet Toilet Combo

A bidet toilet combo is a combination of a toilet and a bidet toilet seat. Unlike when you buy a toilet with a regular toilet seat and replace it with a bidet seat, the bidet toilet combo is sold as a complete unit comprising of the toilet and the bidet seat.

Some of the best bidet toilet combos, such as the Toto Neorest 700H and Kohler Veil (floor-mounted or wall-mounted), are compact one-piece toilets. They offer the most luxurious toilet functions, most of which are completely hands-free.

Toilet bidet combos are more expensive than regular toilets, even those fitted with high-end bidet seats. However, they are so sleek and modern, and as I have said, they offer the user more comfort than regular toilets.

I wrote a detailed article reviewing some of the best bidet toilet combos in the market today. If you would like to read the article, check it out here.

Best Bidet Toilet Seat Attachment

If you want to clean yourself after using the toilet but can afford a bidet toilet seat, a bidet toilet seat attachment is a great choice. They cost way less than bidet toilet seats while offering the same function.

A bidet toilet seat attachment comes with a hose and T-adapter that is connected to the toilet water supply line and installed between the toilet and the bowl. Since they are mechanical, the user regulates the nozzle function using dials located on the arm of the attachment.

Although there are other models, like the Luxe Bidet Neo 120 and the Luxe Bidet Neo 185, the Luxe Bidet Neo 320 bidet seat attachment is the one I would most recommend. The difference in price is not that much, and you will get more and better options.

Unlike the others, these bidet attachment has a cold and hot water option, which is really cool, especially on cold days. It has an 18-month warranty.

What to Look for in a Bidet Toilet Seat

Not all bidet seats will work out well for you. That is why it is important to do thorough research before settling on a certain model and from a certain brand. A seat that is perfect for your friend might turn out to be completely off in your bathroom.

So, what should you look out for while buying a bidet toilet seat? What are the factors to consider before you choose a certain bidet seat?

The following are some of the factors that I believe you should first check out before buying a bidet toilet seat:

1. Toilet Bowl Shape: Elongated Vs. Round Toilet Bowls

best-bidet-toilet-seat

In the United States, toilets have either an elongated bowl or a round front one. The elongated toilet bowls are oval-shaped, while the round ones have an almost circular front.

The same is also true for toilet seats. You should always buy a toilet seat that matches the shape of your toilet bowl. If you can’t tell them apart by just looking at them, get a measuring tape and measure.

To measure a toilet seat, you actually measure the length of the bowl and not the existing seat. To do this effectively, you should consider removing the existing seat.

After that, look for 2 holes at the back of the bowl where the seat was mounted. Place the end of the measuring tape at the center between the two holes and measure the distance up to the frontmost point of the bowl.

If you get a length of about 16.5 inches, you have a round bowl, and you should, therefore, order a round bidet toilet seat. On the other hand, if the length of the bowl is about 18.5 inches, you have an elongated bowl, and you should then order an elongated bidet toilet seat.

2. Electric Vs. Non-Electric Bidet Toilet Seats

best-bidet-toilet-seat

A bidet toilet seats will be either electric or non-electric. An electric bidet seat will come with a power cord to plug into a power outlet, while non-electric bidet seats do not have a power cord.

Between the 2 of them, electric bidet seats offer more comfortable features than non-electric bidet seats. To start with, an electric bidet seat assures you of warm cleansing water and a warm air dryer. With a non-electric bidet seat, you have to contend with cold cleansing, and you will also need to dry yourself with toilet paper or a towel.

Using an electric bidet seat, you also get to enjoy other features like a heated seat, nightlight, remote-controlled operations, and automatic lid opening and closing for high-end models. All these features are absent in the non-electric bidet seats. Let us just say that non-electric bidets are the basic types of bidet seats.

Having said that, I should also add that electric bidets are more expensive than non-electric bidet seats, which is hardly surprising. Personally, I always encourage folks to go for the electric bidet seats whenever possible. It just leaves you with a great experience.

3. Brand

There are brands that have been making bidet seats for many years and have, as a result, mastered the craft. They know what works well and what doesn’t, which is what helps them come up with original and durable products.

There is also new entrants in the industry who also have great products. They could also have learned from the mistakes of their competition and did not, therefore, need to travel the same path of trial and error. The opposite is also possible.

To go with an established brand or a new brand is a double-edged sword, and I will tell you why. Often, the big and established brands tend to sell their products at a higher price compared to smaller and newer brands.

As a consumer, you are always torn between paying a premium from the big brand or betting on the smaller and newer brands. Both of these decisions could work out great, while one could be awful, or even both. This is where I would ask you to follow your heart.

4. Warranty

A bidet seat is not a cheap thing, and you, therefore, need to be sure that it has a proper warranty. Warranties normally take effect from the date of purchase.

Some companies allow you to register the warranties online on their websites, which I would advise you to do. As they say, “The internet never forgets,” and you will always have proof of purchase. You should also read the warranty’s fine print to know exactly what it covers and what the exceptions are.

In the same breath, I will also tell you that it is exceedingly important to make sure that you buy your bidet seat when it is brand new and from an authorized dealer. If you do the contrary and unfortunately you get into some problem with it, you would have lost your money.

5. Aesthetics

The design of the bidet seat has to be attractive and inviting. You want your toilet to look as elegant as possible. Apart from being a sanitary product, a bidet seat can greatly enhance and complement your overall bathroom décor.

Do not, therefore, be afraid to read many reviews and see how the specific bidet you want to buy looks in other people’s bathrooms. Sometimes, how the product looks on the manufacturer’s website is not the same way the real thing looks. Seeing it from another buyer’s angle helps you to make an informed choice.

How to Install a Bidet Toilet Seat.

Most people don’t understand how easy it is to install a bidet seat. The truth of the matter is that it is pretty easy, and you do not even need to pay a plumber to do it for you. When you buy a bidet seat, you will also receive a T-adapter, a water hose, and a bidet seat mounting plate.

The T-adapter is a metallic fitting that creates a water junction from the supply line such that some flows to the toilet tank and some flows to the bidet seat as required.

Step 1: Turn off the Water Supply

  • On the wall behind the toilet, you will find a small knob which is the toilet shut-off valve. Turn it clockwise to turn off the toilet water supply.
  • Flush the toilet and hold the handle down to remove as much water as possible.
  • Since some water will still be left at the bottom of the tank, remove the tank lid and mop out all the water with a sponge.
  • Disconnect the water supply line from the tank. The coupling is normally plastic and hand-tight, and you should not use a wrench unless it is too tight.
  • Have a small plastic container to collect the little water still on the line.

Step 2: Remove the Toilet seat.

  • The toilet seat is attached to the bowl using two bolts and wingnuts.
  • Check if the bolts are covered using plastic covers. If so, pry them off with a flathead screwdriver.
  • With one of your hands, reach to the underside of the bowl and hold the wingnut while you unscrew the bolt with your other hand using a screwdriver.
  • Do the same for the other bolt and wingnut.
  • Lift the seat off. For more info, see this post.
  • Clean the top of the bowl.

Step 3. Install the Bidet Seat Mounting Plate

  • Place the bidet seat mounting plate on top of the bowl.
  • Insert the brackets on the plate and align them with the seat mounting holes on the bowl.
  • Using the bolts supplied, tighten the mounting plate in place.

Step 4: Install the Bidet Seat

  • Slide the bidet seat on the mounting plate.
  • As a confirmation that the bidet is properly installed, you should hear it click.
  • Check to see that the seat is properly aligned with the bowl on both sides and also at the front.
  • If not, adjust the mounting plate position and check again until you are satisfied.

Step 5: Connect the Water Supply

  • Connect one end of the T-adapter to the toilet tank fill valve, where the water supply line was previously connected.
  • The water supply line will then be connected to the lower end of the T-adapter.
  • Next, connect the bidet seat water supply hose to the remaining side of the T-adapter.
  • Turn on the water supply. Make sure that there are no leaks. If any tighten, but don’t be too crazy on it.

Step 6: Test/Use Your Bidet Seat.

  • For best results, wrap a saran wrap at the top of the bidet seat to avoid water splashing and to also see what exactly is happening in the bowl.
  • If you have an electric bidet, plug it into the electrical outlet.
  • Hold your remote control and start testing all the bidet functions: rear wash, front wash, pulsating and oscillating wash, bidet dryer, etc.
  • If you are happy with everything, remove the saran wrap and start enjoying the best seat in the house going forward.

Conclusion

A bidet toilet seat to me looks almost like a necessity these days. Their convenience cannot be overemphasized. Although they are used by men and women, they are especially useful to women during their monthly cycle as well as during and after pregnancy.

Bidet toilet seats are also great for people with limited mobility, as their movements are greatly reduced. People suffering from hemorrhoids have also found bidets to be helpful as the warm water soothes them, unlike toilet paper.

A little luxury has also never hurt anyone, and that is why you should also reward yourself with a nice bidet toilet seat. You deserve it.
