The 5 Best Toto Washlets – Features and Comparisons
Last Updated on May 18, 2022 by toilethaven
Toto bidet toilet seats which are commonly referred to as washlets are some of the best bidet seats in the market. They cost a little bit more than most of the other bidet seats but you are assured of quality, comfort and best performance.
Toto, a Japanese toilet manufacturer was the first company to manufacture and sell electronic bidet toilet seats. Bidet seats were an instant hit in Japan but the same could not be said of the United States.
As a matter of fact, the first electric bidet seat was invented by an American, Arnold Cohen aka “Mr. Bidet” but it received a lukewarm welcome in North America. Cohen sold his patent to Toto who improved it and started making and selling bidet seats in Japan.
Americans have however now embraced bidet seats and those who have used them don’t see toilet paper the same way again. Most people trust the Toto brand since they also make some of the best flushing toilets in the industry.
Having sold millions of washlets all over the world, Toto must by know know what works and what doesn’t as far as bidet seats are concerned.
Here are 5 of the best Toto Washlets
Washlet | Features |

1. Toto S550e | auto close/open lid instant/tankless heater classic/modern style elongated size only 5 inches high nightlight |
2. Toto S350e | auto open/close lid classic style lid auto close/open lid compact size instant/tankless heater round/elongated size |
3. Toto K300 | Instant water heater compact size elongated size only classic lid style |

1.Toto S550e Washlet

The Toto S550e washlet is in my opinion the best bidet toilet seat not only among other Toto washlets but across the industry. It offers everything you would ever want from a bidet seat.
Toto S550e comes in 2 designs. There is the modern/contemporary design and a classic design. The contemporary design seat has smooth lid from front to back while the lid of the classic design seat has a beveled edge. This design is only on the lid and is purely for cosmetic purposes.
I should say early enough that Toto S550e washlet is only available for elongated toilet bowls. You cannot get one for a round-front toilet. The color finishes available are cotton white and Sedona beige.
Toto S550e is the among the few bidet seats that offers an auto opening and closing lid. It is fitted with a motion sensor such that when you enter the bathroom and start walking towards it the lid automatically lifts off. When you are done doing your business, you simply stand up and walk away. The lid will close on its own.
Not all people however love this feature. If your toilet is very close to other bathroom fixtures, you will notice the lid opening every time you enter the bathroom even if your intention was not to use the toilet. This can surely be a little irritating forcing you to turn off the feature.
Toto S550e uses a single plastic nozzle to offer rear, front, rear wide, front wide, oscillating and pulsating wash functions using warm water with air-infused bubbles. The temperature and pressure of the water can be easily adjusted to suit you preferred settings.
As soon as you are all cleaned a warm air dryer will start blowing warm air all over your rear and front till you are completely dry. An air deodorizer will also automatically kick in to deal with any lingering bad odor.
The Toto S550e washlet comes with a sleek dual-sided wireless remote control with a wall-mount. The remote control has 2 user presets where you can select and save the preferred wash function settings for 2 people.
This washlet’s nozzles is self-cleaning. It uses Toto’s electrolyzed water popularly known as Ewater+ to sanitize the nozzle before every use. Toto also incorporates another feature called Premist where the electrolyzed water is used to mist/wet the bowl. The wet bowl inhibits waste from sticking.
Toto S550e uses an instant water heating system allowing it to be very compact. Its highest point (the rear of the seat) is 5 inches while its maximum weight limit is 320 pounds.
Other features available in the in the Toto S5550e included a heated toilet seat and nightlight. Both its power cord and water supply line are connected on the left-hand side while the air deodorizer and the seat’s quick-release button are on the right side.
The Toto S550e washlet is quite pricey but it is not difficult to see why. It comes with a 1-year warranty.
Toto S550e vs Toto S500e
Toto S550e and Toto S500e washlets have almost similar features and most people do not see/know the difference between them. So is there a difference?
Toto S550e has 2 extra features that are absent in the Toto S500e. These are the auto opening and closing lid and LED nightlight. All of their other features are the same.
If you feel like you would prefer the washlet without the lid opening and closing automatically then the Toto S500e washlet is the toilet seat for you. I have written more about this topic in this post.
Toto S500e is slightly cheaper than S550e. If you would like to buy it instead check it out here on Amazon.
2. Toto S350e Washlet

Toto S350e washlet is a high-end bidet toilet seat with some of the best and sophisticated features in the market. It is available for both elongated and round-front toilets bowls in cotton white and Sedona beige finishes.
Due to its instant (tankless) heating system, Toto s350e is quite compact measuring about 4 inches at the rear, which is its highest point. Both its power cord and water supply line are on the left side while the deodorizer and seat’s quick release button are on the right side.
You will also find backup wash buttons on the left side of the bidet seat. They are however not as many as those on the wireless remote control but they will do the basics . These auxiliary buttons are really helpful foe when your remote control’s batteries die.
You will also notice a flush button on that side of the seat. Surprisingly enough the button does not function. I think Toto wanted the seat to function like their high-end Neorest toilets but abandoned the idea altogether.
Toto S350e also uses a single plastic nozzles to offer a variety of wash functions like rear, front, soft rear, wide front, oscillating and pulsating washes. The nozzle can be adjusted back and forth to reach and clean over a wider area.
The pressure of the cleaning water can be increased or decreased easily from the remote control while its temperature can be adjusted through 5 levels. Just like the S550e, you can also select and save the preferred wash setting for up to 2 family members.
To dry yourself after the cleaning process, a warm air dryer with 5 adjustable temperature levels will take over. You can also quickly dry yourself with a towel or toilet paper if you are in a hurry since the drying process takes a while.
Toto S350e is another Toto washlet with an auto opening and closing seat and lid. You only need to approach the toilet and the lid will lift off for you, ushering you to the already heated seat. The lid will also automatically close some seconds after you have left.
Please note that the seat does not open and close automatically with the lid. Gentlemen, if you want to do the number 1 look for a button at the top of the remote control and press it.
The seat will lift off on its own. I really like the thinking by Toto to put this button at the top of the remote such that if the remote is mounted on the wall you just push the button from the top without having to bend too much.
Toto S350e also uses Ewater+ to sanitize the nozzle and premist the bowl. According to a research by Toto, a wet bowl is more effective in waste elimination than a dry bowl. I completely agree with that finding. If your poop sticks on the toilet bowl you will also be in agreement after using this bidet seat.
Additional features of the Toto S350e bidet seat include a heated toilet seat and an LED nightlight. The nightlight turns on as soon as the auto open/close lid is activated.
To help you save on your power bills, Toto S350E has a programmable energy saving mode that allows you to select the time during the day when your toilet/seat is not in use.
This washlet comes with a 1-year warranty.
Toto S350e vs Toto S300e
So, what is the difference between Toto S350e and the Toto S300e and which one is the best? Or rather which one should you buy?
The only difference between Toto S350e and the Toto S300e washlets is that Toto S350e has the auto close/open lid feature while the Toto S300e doesn’t. All of their other features are similar.
Again, if you feel like the automatic opening and closing lid will drive you crazy perhaps you should buy the Toto S300e. If on the other hand you love the feature then go with the S350e.
Check out the Toto S300e here on Amazon
Toto S350e vs Toto S550e
The Toto S550e is the new version of the Toto S350e. Toto improved some of the features in the S350e to come up with the S550e. The same is also true for the Toto S300 and S500.
The first difference between Toto S350e and Toto S550e is that while Toto S350e’s lid is only available in a classic style, Toto S550e comes in both a classic style and a contemporary one. Toto S550e is however available for elongated toilets only while S350e is available for round and elongated toilets.
You will also notice a difference in the remote control. Toto S350e uses wireless remote control with soft buttons while the S550e’s remote is sleeker and uses touch sensitive buttons.
Toto also improved the nightlight feature on the S550e to real nightlight, something the owners of the S350e felt was inferior to what the competition was offering.
3. Toto K300 Washlet

If you are looking for a Toto washlet that is cheaper than the high-end models reviewed above but with better features than the popular Toto C200 and C100 washlets then the Toto K300 is the one to go for. Let us see what makes it a worthwhile option.
To start with, just Like the Toto S550e and S350e Toto K300 does not have a hot water reservoir at the back. This allows it to be more compact with the highest point of the seat (which is the rear) being 5.2 inches high.
One thing about bidet seats with instant water heating systems is that they provide you with an endless supply of hot water. The ones you see with a hot water tank/reservoir at the back will have hot water running for about 30-40 seconds only.
The top of the Toto K300’s lid is flat from back to front like that of the contemporary Toto S550e. You will however notice that the lid unlike that of the S550e does not cover the entire seat and instead leaves a small gap.
Just like the S550e, Toto K300 is only available for elongated toilets only. Folks with a round-front toilet cannot install it. It is 14.8 inches wide and 20.5 inches long.
Toto K300 also uses a single plastic nozzle to provide all the wash functions. The options available are rear wash, front wash and rear front wash. This model does not have the front wide wash function present in Toto S550e and S350e.
You can also select the oscillating wash functions when you want the nozzle to move back and forth and clean a bigger surface area. The pulsating/massage function is also absent in this model but present in the high-end Toto S550e and S350e.
The K300 washlet comes with a white dual-sided wireless remote control that magnetically attaches to the wall-mount. On the front side is where you will find the frequently used buttons while those rarely used will be at the back.
The design of the remote is in my opinion very neat which help to prevent clutter. Actually, once you set up the 2 user presets that the K300 offers I don’t think you will need to use the back side of the remote that often. This remote is however not as sleek and elaborate as the silver remote of the s550e/S500e.
Toto K300 offers bowl premisting but does not have the Ewater+ feature available in the other high-end models. This is however not to say that Toto K300 is any less hygienic because even for the other models you will still need to clean the nozzle physically from time to time.
Another feature absent in the Toto K300 but present in Toto S550e is the auto lid opening and closing as well as LED nightlight. You will have to lift the toilet lid up and put it down yourself gently as the soft close feature is absent too.
Toto K300 also comes with a warm air dryer and a heated seated. Different from other high-end Toto washlets that have 5 temperature levels, the K300 has 3 temperature levels which is actually more than sufficient.
To put your power consumption in check, Toto K100 allows you to select the hours when you anticipate the washlet will be idle so that you can set its power consumption to low. It also comes with an air deodorizer.
In summary, Toto K300 washlet is a fantastic option for people who want most of the features present in the high-end models but at a good price. It comes with a 1-year warranty.
4. Toto C200 Washlet

The Toto C200 is the most popular Toto washlet. It offers most of the functions you would need from a bidet seat albeit with some restrictions compared with the high-end models as we are going to see in this review.
Toto C200 washlet is available for both round and elongated toilets seats in cotton white and Sedona beige finishes. You can however only buy it with the classic design as Toto does not a make a contemporary/modern design for this seat.
The one thing that clearly stands out about the Toto C200 is that it is quite a bulky bidet seat compared to the high-end models which tend to be more compact. The highest point of the seat is about 7 inches which is at the back and it slopes down towards the front with the lid down.
It is a bit disappointing to note that the C200 does not have back up buttons on the body of the seat for when the remote control is lost or batteries die. All of its wash functions have to be selected from the wireless remote control.
The C200 uses a single plastic nozzle which can be adjusted through 5 different positions at any time no matter what wash function is running. You can also adjust the water temperature as well as the pressure/intensity of the spray.
The wash functions available are rear wash, front wash, rear soft wash, pulsating and oscillating wash. Toto C200 does not offer the wide front wash. Basically, the wide front wash found in the S550e cleans over a wider area with less intensity. To achieve this with the C200 you can run the front wash and oscillating wash functions concurrently.
Just like any decent bidet seat, the C200 has a warm air dryer with adjustable temperature levels as well. An air deodorizer on the right side of the bidet seat will draw in the bad odor around the toilet and release fresh air.
One main difference between Toto C200 and other high-end Toto bidet seats is that it uses a hot water reservoir and does not have the instant water system or a hybrid system for that matter. You will there not enjoy endless supply of warm water as the tank usually gets depleted after about 40 seconds which should be sufficient.
If the hot water runs out and you are not yet done cleaning. Just press the stop button on the remote control to prevent cold water from coming out. The tank will refill and warm the water in a few minutes.
Although the C200 nozzle is self-cleaning, it does not use the Ewater+ available in other high-end models so you will need to clean and sanitize it from time to time. It however uses ordinary water to mist the bowl which aids in flushing and keeping the toilet clean.
Toto C200 does not also have the auto lid close/open feature nor can you raise and lower the seat from with the remote control. Thankfully both the lid and seat have the slow/soft close feature hence they don’t slam on the toilet.
The dual-sided wireless remote control is silver in color and neat looking with the frequently used wash functions buttons on the front while the others or at the back or side. It also gives you the option for selecting and saving the preferred wash settings for 2 users.
If you frequent the bathroom at night you will be disappointed in the Toto C200’s lack of a nightlight which seems quite standard even for mid-range bidet seats. The seat is however heated throughout the day.
Toto C200 comes with a 1-year warranty.
5. Toto C100 Washlet

The Toto C100 washlet is a decent entry level bidet toilet seat although it has limited features compared other more expensive Toto washlets. What makes it worthwhile pick though?
Toto C100 is available for both round and elongated toilets in cotton white and Sedona beige finishes. Its seat lid is however only available in a classic design.
Just like the Toto C200, the C100 uses a water reservoir located at the back of the toilet and is as such quite bulky. The highest point which is the back of the seat is just above 7 inches high from where it slopes forward with the seat lid down.
The hot water supply lasts for about 35-40 seconds depending on the spray pressure. As soon as the tank is depleted cool water starts flowing so if that is not what you want you should be ready to stop the cleaning process.
Unlike Toto C200 and other high end Toto washlets that use a wireless remote control, the C100 uses a side panel connected to the right side of the washlet from where you can select all the wash functions. You therefore have to turn to the side to access the control panel which could be less than ideal for some people.
Toto C200 vs Toto C100
Apart from the above difference, Toto C100 and C200 are almost identical save for the following minor differences:
- Toto C200 has 5 temperature levels for the water, seat and warm air dryer. C100 has 3 levels
- While the Toto C100 does not have any user presets, Toto C200 has 2 user presets.
- Toto C100 does not have the pulsating/massage wash function which is present in the Toto C200.
In summary, the main difference between Toto C100 and C200 is that Toto C100 uses a an attached side control panel while Toto C200 uses a wireless remote control to power all the washlet’s wash functions.
Toto washlets vs Other Bidet Toilets Seats
It’s not a secret that Toto has some of the best bidet toilet seats in the market. How is the competition doing though? “Very well”! Is the simple answer.
So, which are some of this bidet seats that are giving Toto a run for its money? Let us compare and contrast 3 of them.
Bio Bidet Bliss BB 2000 vs Toto S550e

Bio Bidet BB 2000 is the best bidet toilet seat by Bio Bidet and has become very popular with homeowners for reasons we are going to see.
Starting with design, Bio Bidet BB 2000 is taller than Toto S550e at their highest points. While Toto s550e measures 5 inches, Bio Bidet BB 2000 measures 5.6 inches.
As we have already seen, Toto S550e is only available for elongated toilets bowls in a classic and contemporary design. Bio Bidet BB 2000 is available for both round and elongated toilet bowls but only in a modern design.
Another difference in design is that Bio Bidet is longer and wider than Toto S550e. As a result, it is a far better option for big/heavy people.
One of the main differences between Toto S550e and Bio Bidet BB 2000 is in their nozzles. While Toto S550e uses a single plastic nozzle, Bio Bidet BB 2000 uses a 3-in-1 stainless steel nozzle which is way easier to clean.
Although both of these bidet seats offer decent wash functions, Bio Bidet BB 2000 goes ahead to include an enema wash function. This involves the use of a thin, strong and vortex spray which is very helpful in alleviating constipation.
Both of their nozzles are self-cleansing, before and after each use. Toto S550e’s however mists the bowl, something that Bio Bidet BB 2000 doesn’t. Bio Bidet BB 2000 does not have user presets while Toto S550e has 2 user presets.
Another distinct difference between Toto S550e and Bio Bidet is in their water heating systems. As we have already seen, Toto S550e uses an instant water heating system. Bio Bidet BB 2000 uses a hybrid heating system.
The hybrid system incorporates a tank at the back of the seat and an instant heating system. When the hot water in the tank is depleted the instant heater kicks in immediately. This system makes sure that you don’t get initial cold water shocks and also ensures you have endless supply of hot water.
Bio Bidet BB 2000 does not have the auto close/open lid function which is present in the Toto S550e.
I have in great detail compared both of this seats in a separate post. Read it here.
Brondell Swash 1400 vs Toto S550e

Brondell Swash 1400 is the latest and best bidet seat from Brondell. It is also one of the best bidet seat in the market and we will see why.
Toto S550e washlet is also more compact that the Brondell Swash 1400. While the S550e’s highest point is at only 5 inches Brondell Swash 1400’s is at 5.5 inches. Both of them however use the instant (tankless) water heating system.
The main difference between Brondell Swash 1400 and Toto S550e is in their nozzles. Toto S550e uses a single plastic nozzle while Brondell Swash 1400 uses stainless steel dual nozzle, one for feminine wash and the other one for posterior wash.
Both bidet seats provide decent wash functions. Brondell Swash does not however have the pulsating wash function which is present in the Toto S550e.
Another feature present in the Toto S550e but missing in the Brondell Swash 1400 is the auto opening and closing lid and seat. With the Swash you will have to manually lift and close the lid and seat.
As we know by now, Ewater+ and bowl premisting is exclusively offered by Toto washlets. Brondell Swash does not have that feature but its nozzle will self-clean.
One feature present in the Brondell Swash 1400 but missing in the Toto S550e and many other bidet seats is a sittable lid. You can comfortably sit on the Brondell Swash 1400’s lid (when the lid is down) without bending or breaking it.
While both bidet seats offer a nightlight feature, with the Toto S550e the nightlight is on the side of the seat but with the Brondell Swash 1400 the nightlight illuminates the inside of the toilet bowl.
I have also compared both of these bidet seats in more details in a separate post. Read it here.
Alpha JX vs Toto C200

Which is the best mid-range bidet seat between these 2? Alpha, a smaller and lesser known company is going head to head with the mighty Toto on this one.
The first difference is in their design. Alpha JX is way more compact than Toto C200. At their highest points, Alpha JX measures only 5.5 inches compared to Toto C200’s 7.5 inches.
The rear end of the Alpha JX is also more rounded than that of the Toto C200. This makes it a better option for people with one-piece toilets with a French curve. Both are available for round and elongated toilets.
The main difference however between the Alpha JX and Toto C200 is that Alpha JX uses a tankless instant water heating system for an endless water supply while Toto C200 uses a tank to store preheated water that gets depleted after about 40 seconds. This is why the Alpha JX is more compact and sleeker than the Toto C200.
Toto C200 also lacks a nightlight feature but the same is present in the Alpha JX. The white nightlight is light sensitize such that it only turns on when the bathroom is dark.
Both the C200 and JX offer above average wash functions. While we already know that Toto C200 uses a single plastic nozzle, Alpha JX uses a single aluminum nozzle. The JX also offers a sittable lid while the C200 doesn’t.
Just like any other Toto bidet seat, the C200 has the bowl premist feature. The same is absent in the Alpha JX. Alpha JX does not also have an air deodorizer.
Elongated vs Round Bidet Seat
Should you buy a round or an elongated washlet/bidet toilet seat? That will depend on the shape and size of your toilet. Elongated toilet bowls are oval-shaped and about 18.5 inches in length while round toilet bowls are circular and about 16.5 inches in length.
If are not sure then you can easily measure and find out. Here is how to measure for a toilet seat.
After buying a bidet seat, you can decide to install it for yourself which is pretty easy than a regular toilet seat. Check out how here.
